About Maite Nobo
Maite Nobo is an Artist and Interior Architect. She is known for being the creator of “Big.”, an uplifting copyrighted proprietary brand developed to impact lives worldwide. Through this platform as well as others, Maite is able to inspire others in an implicit way.
Maite Nobo was born in Havana, Cuba.. She is a descendant of one of the most noble families from Spain which was granted a Marquis title and given land in Cuba. After the Cuban revolution, Nobo fled to New York City as a refugee with her family where she spent her formative years. Later, she moved to Florida and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Florida International University, School of Architecture. Exposure to art and architecture at a very young age sparked a great interest in the Bauhaus movement. The “Less is More” philosophy is a common theme in Nobo’s minimalistic work.
Carol Damian, Ph.D stated “It may be no surprise that Ms. Nobo was trained as an interior architect and grew up on construction sites. Her familiarity with drawing is fundamental to all her work. It informs the precise quality of objects made of aluminum and inscribed with seeming ease of execution to cut letters and other designs. It is also evident within the layers of pigment densely applied to painting surfaces that may look spontaneous but are carefully determined to affect shadows and lighting, which vary with time and place. “Her concern with all-over abstract arrangements through accidental juxtapositions generates images embedded and barely discernable in the textures. Monochromatic palettes range from soft and elegant to luminous rich tonalities, all of which enhance the surface. There is an overall unified effect in the application of paint and mixed media additions to the canvas or other supporting structures essential to her compositions.” The repetition of a simple word ... introduces the minimalist approach that describes much of her aesthetic approach to making art. Often, the most basic ideas are the most provocative, inviting the viewer to complete their meaning.”
Bruce Helander credits, “Maite Nobo has spent years perfecting the interaction of built-up color with an appealing, nearly supernatural, energetic surface. The artist has reduced pigment to its purest form, mixing in her own secret recipe (that includes powdered cement) for an extraordinary exterior platform that is successful on every occasion. Her recent works are delightfully striking and unabashedly handsome, often celestial and sublime, as the canvas soaks up pigment like a street corner after a rain. And then comes the rainbow; then comes the sun!”
Over the past 37 years, Nobo has honed her technique and style with unconventional tools and materials creating art without fear and boundaries. She plans her work methodically weeks and sometimes months in advance but allows the process to happen with surprise. Her work is meant to be the ultimate sophistication for a forward thinking collector with an eye for proportion, color and detail.
